Replaced by Hyundai?
Author DenverDude|alreadySunday, July 26, 2020

Just 10 years ago, the idea of trading a Ford, Toyota, Nissan or Volkswagen for a Hyundai (as I just did) would have been a joke. No more! This 2020 Hyundai Palisade outshines the competition in its assigned mainstream 3-row SUV segment, but would hold its own comfortably against BMW, Infiniti, and Cadillac in the luxury segment. Seriously. Driving is good. 291 horsepower provides adequate power. Nobody drags their 3-row SUV anyway. Smooth transmission, comfortable, quiet ride. All-wheel drive works well (although this is not a true off-road vehicle). MPG is about 20% higher than estimates. I had one stretch of 120 miles where the Palisade averaged 36 (yes, 36) mpg and NOT in eco mode! This was an anomaly, as it usually gets around 24-26 MPG for me. Plenty of room. Not as cavernous as an Atlas or Traverse, but bigger than a Highlander or Explorer (yes - believe it or not). Plus, in the Limited trim I bought, it's filled with great technology, safety features, and a luxurious mix of interior materials. It really is the whole package. It's not 100 percent great - the downside is the lack of power folding mirrors. And standard Bridgestone tires should be Michelin. But these are "rich people's problems". It's hard to find anything wrong with the Hyundai Palisade. (Also - I can't give a 5 for reliability because I haven't owned it long enough. I'm assuming it will be reliable considering it has a 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.) This is the best vehicle I've ever owned, period.. .including my previous Jeep Grand Cherokee and Volkswagen Atlas. I'm happy I switched.…
Palisade impresses after a month

I am retired and wanted something that could support our emerging travel plans. We wanted a car with great safety features, and Hyundai/Kia do an admirable job here. We chose the Calligraphy AWD model, which had all the advantages and an outstanding interior. There are plenty of cameras, but the best ones are those mounted under the exterior mirrors and activated by the direction indicators. You can see exactly who is approaching, no more blind spots! These cameras, like all cameras, provide very high resolution images. Exterior - the design is distinctive, especially at the front. LED lights/lamps provide superior illumination at night. People stop trying to figure out what it is. We also have the Mercedes ML series, and the Palisade is both longer and wider, making it a little tight in a two-car garage. The tailgate is easily opened from the outside, on a panel or key fob. Ride - very comfortable and very quiet. I was surprised to see KBB's expert rating noting some wind noise. This is not the case with our car. In fact, it's quieter than our Mercedes SUV. The seats are very comfortable and supportive. Performance - acceleration is adequate with downshifts quite easy. The transmission is very smooth with little feeling of going through the 8 gears. Braking is smooth and sensitive. Gas mileage was surprisingly good around town, with the engine stop feature not being overly irritating. Interior - probably one of the nicest we've seen, especially in this price range. Too many options to mention, but the leather seats look great, lots of storage space everywhere, and most things are within easy reach, except for the manual radio dial. The heads-up display is very clear and does not obstruct your view outside at all. The digital dashboard has a different look depending on the selected driving mode, but the speedometer and tachograph are very clear in each. You also have the outside temperature, the forecast, as well as many other configurable options. We have a 2nd row captain's chair that is just as comfortable as the front seats. They also facilitate access to the 3rd row. The infotainment screen is nicely integrated into the center of the dashboard and offers a very high resolution. The "Home" screen is divided into (3) views, map, radio, weather forecast. We have yet to master voice commands, but navigation seems pretty simple and intuitive. The 360° camera views are very good and the warning beeps are very useful. Storage and USB ports - plenty throughout the car, starting under the center console and continuing to the storage compartment behind the 3rd row of seats. USB ports are scattered around the car, and the front console has a pad for wireless charging. Overall, I'm very happy with the many features yet to be explored.…
